Port Stephens is a big drowned valley about two and a half hours' drive north of Sydney, and the charter offer leaves from the Corlette and Nelson Bay marinas at its southern shore.

The bay is more than twice the area of Sydney Harbour and mostly sheltered, which gives a charter a lot of room without much exposure. Wildlife is genuinely part of the product here rather than a brochure line, and operators plan routes around where the dolphins have been.

Getting out of the heads into the ocean is a different proposition and conditional on the swell. For most charters the bay is the trip.
