About Top Charters
An independent directory of Australian sailing charters, published by YouSail.com.au. It takes no bookings, earns no commission and sells no placement, which is the only reason its comparisons are worth reading.
What we do
We read what Australian sailing-charter operators publish about themselves, record it with the date we read it, and organise it so that like can be compared with like. That sounds modest. In practice it is the thing the market does badly: a headline capacity of thirty and a headline capacity of six are quoted in the same typeface, and one is a day-passenger limit while the other is a berth count.
What independence means here
- No bookings. Every enquiry goes to the operator. We never sit between you and the boat.
- No commission. We are not paid when you book, so no listing benefits from being recommended.
- No paid placement. Order is by review count, name or region, never by payment. There is no advertising on this site.
- No invented data. A field the operator has not published stays marked as needing confirmation. See the methodology.
How the facts get checked
Every operator URL is opened, redirects followed, and the returned page inspected for operator identity and genuine sailing content. A domain that resolves is not evidence: parked pages and unrelated businesses are removed rather than listed. Review scores are recorded only where an exact listing match exists, with the platform, the count and the date. Government sources are treated as authoritative for regulation, warnings and zoning, and they are all listed on the resources page.
Operator websites are treated as primary evidence for their own current products, and as marketing for any claim about quality. That distinction does most of the work.
What we get wrong
Plenty, eventually. Prices move, fleets are sold, survey limits change and a page read correctly in September is wrong by March. The disclaimer says this in full, and it is not boilerplate: nothing here should be the last thing you check before you pay or depart. If you find an error, tell us and it gets fixed or removed, fastest if you include a source.
Re-verification
The directory carries a verification date because it is meant to. Operator URLs, review scores and published prices are rechecked on a quarterly cycle, and season, hazard and cyclone content is refreshed before each of the two Australian sailing seasons. The date shown on a page is the date that page was last confirmed, not the date the site launched.
Images and logos
Photography on this site is placeholder illustration, clearly labelled, and does not depict the named vessel or place. Diagrams and charts are generated from the directory's own published fields. Operator logos appear for identification only, beside the operator's own name and linked to their site, and remain the property of their owners; we record the source and fetch date for each and remove any on request.
