This page explains, in plain terms, what Top Charters is and is not, and why nothing here should be the last thing you check before you go to sea.

This information can be wrongEverything on this site is editorial information compiled from public sources on a particular date. It can be incomplete, out of date, misread from an operator's own page, or simply mistaken. Do not rely on it for any decision that affects safety, money or a legal obligation. Confirm every material fact directly with the operator, and every regulatory question with the responsible authority, before you book or depart.

What this site is

An independent directory. It records what Australian sailing-charter operators publish about themselves, dated at the point it was read, and organises it so like can be compared with like. It takes no bookings, earns no commission and sells no placement.

What this site is not

  • Not navigation advice. Nothing here is a pilot book, a chart, or a substitute for one. Passage distances are rounded planning estimates. Anchorages are named because an operator or a public source mentioned them, not because they are suitable for your vessel, your crew or today's forecast. Use official charts, Notices to Mariners and the operator's own safety management system.
  • Not safety advice. Descriptions of hazards are general and incomplete. The master of the vessel, or the hirer under a hire-and-drive arrangement, is responsible for the safety of the vessel and everyone aboard.
  • Not legal or regulatory advice. Summaries of survey classes, operating areas and licensing are written for orientation and simplify a framework that changes. The authoritative sources are named on every relevant page and gathered on the resources page.
  • Not weather forecasting. Seasons and wind patterns on this site are climatology, which is a long-run average. It is never a forecast. Check the Bureau of Meteorology before and during any trip.
  • Not an endorsement. Inclusion is not a recommendation and the order of any list is not a ranking of quality. See the methodology.
  • Not a price quote. Price signals are what an operator published on the date shown. They are not offers and they do not bind anyone.

Review scores

Ratings shown here are third-party figures from Tripadvisor or Google, recorded with the platform, the count and the date they were read. They move constantly, the snapshot here will drift, and this site does not collect, moderate or verify individual reviews. They are deliberately not published as this site's own aggregate rating.

Images

Illustrations on this site are generated placeholders and schematics. They do not depict the named vessel, operator or anchorage, and no image here should be used to identify a place or judge a boat. Operator logos appear for identification only, beside the operator's own name, and remain the property of their owners.

Links to operators and authorities are provided for convenience. Top Charters does not control those sites and is not responsible for their content, availability or accuracy.
