SailsBrisbane and Moreton Bayspring and autumn are especially comfortable in south-east Queensland

Moreton Bay's charter fleet leaves from the bayside marinas east of Brisbane rather than from the river. Raby Bay, Manly and Scarborough are the usual departure points, and the bay behind Moreton and North Stradbroke islands is the sailing ground.

The bay is shallow and the tides matter. A metre of tide changes which crossings and which anchorages are available, and a charter briefing here spends real time on the banks rather than on the weather. That is not a warning so much as a description: this is tidal sailing, and crews who plan around it have a very easy time of it.

It is also the closest genuine cruising ground to a capital city on this coast, which makes a three-day weekend worth the effort in a way that a longer transit would not.

Ask before you book flights
  • Which wharf exactly, and what time is the handover or boarding?
  • Which airport does the operator expect you at, and is the transfer included?
  • Where do you leave a car for the duration, and at what cost?
  • Is there a berth charge, landing fee or marina levy on top of the daily rate?
  • If the boat cannot leave this base on the day, what is offered instead?

How this base page was builtClustered from the base each operator publishes on its own site, read together with the state it operates in, because two marinas in different states share a name. 2 of these 3 operators publish a rate; the rest quote. No facility here has been inspected and no operator was contacted for comment.Methodology

This base is in its window in March, April, September, October. The Brisbane and Moreton Bay page covers the hazards and anchorages behind it.
