Airlie Beach and Coral Sea Marina
The busiest charter base in Australia and the one most first-time bareboaters leave from.
Airlie Beach is the mainland town for the Whitsundays and Coral Sea Marina is the marina most of its charter fleet sits in. If you are chartering in the Whitsundays without flying to an island, this is almost certainly where your handover happens.
The practical consequence of that concentration is choice. More operators leave from here than from anywhere else in the country, across more formats, which means a boat is usually available even in the dry season and that prices are comparable rather than take-it-or-leave-it. It also means the handover queue is real: a Saturday morning in July has several crews being briefed at once, and an operator who rushes that briefing is telling you something.
Getting here is the other half. Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) airport is about forty minutes away by road and Hamilton Island airport is a ferry ride, so an island flight and a mainland base do not always combine as neatly as the fares suggest. Confirm which airport your operator expects you at before booking flights, because the transfer is sometimes included and sometimes not.
