Darwin's charter boats work from the harbour wharves, Stokes Hill and Cullen Bay among them, and the offer is mostly sunset and harbour sailing rather than multi-day cruising.

Two things shape it. The tidal range is among the largest in the country, which governs when a boat can move and where it can berth, and the year splits into a dry season that works and a wet season that mostly does not. May to October is when visitor operations run reliably.

The Territory is also the one jurisdiction with no recreational boat licence at all, which changes nothing about a commercial charter: the skipper still holds a certificate and the vessel still holds survey.
